EXCELLENT Based on 72 reviews Chloe A2024-10-29Verified Life changing!! Our trip with Luke was something we will talk about and remember forever. From the planning phase and throughout the trip- Luke was so knowledgeable and a joy to be around. We had the BEST snacks (with added local whiskey 😋), he taught us all about the local area/wildlife and we felt totally safe and looked after for our overnight trip. Travelling from the UK, we really only had our clothing but Luke provided everything to a really good standard. We hiked, laughed, sang and danced, swam, floated and shared stories until the milkyway came out. Don't think twice if you're debating booking, just do it - I promise you won't regret it. David B2024-10-17Verified Guided Bitterroot Traverse Montana to Idaho I am an experienced solo backpacker but decided to hire Luke to guide a traverse across the Bitterroots from Blodgett Canyon Trailhead to Elk Summit in Idaho for myself and one other hiking partner. We met at Lochsa Lodge and drove two trucks down to Elk Summit and then all three piled into Luke’s truck for the +100 mile drive back to Blodgett to start. The weather was perfect, and the trip was perfect. The first night we covered six miles before we had a bit of a windstorm. The second day, we stopped at Blodgett Lake, which was beyond words perfect. Luke lugged up his pack-raft (we left ours in the truck by design!), and we took turns for sunset lake paddles. Chilly at 6500 feet, but the stars were impressive. On the third day, we hiked over past; there was some lingering fire smoke coming up the Montana canyons, which wasn’t there the day before. Over the pass was clear and completely cleared of blowdowns by Clearwater National Forest teams. We camped at Big Sand Lake. Think Luke caught 5-6 fish which were very active at sundown. The last day we hiked out to Elk Summit, I didn’t lose my keys, and we drove back to Montana and Luke’s car.So pleased we hired Luke. Even experienced backpackers learn new stuff from local experts. It added to the experience, and I do everything solo. Small things that I never do on my own – like carrying my packraft on a 95% hike only, making a fire before bed, not taking shortcuts to get to the next spot. Can’t recommend enough. Rachel M2024-09-23Verified Highly recommend. The name of this company is actually Bitterroot Backpacking. It is run by Luke who was our guide. You can find them by putting Bitterroot Backpacking in your search engine. We were a group of 4 people with vastly different levels of fitness. Luke was so kind, knowledgeable and fun. Our group did not know anything about Montana or backpacking. We just wanted to experience the mountains and nature up close. Luke kept in touch with me before and during the trip to ensure everybody was safe and had a good time. He asked about our group members before our expedition. It was decided that the trip we had planned would be much too strenuous for some of our group members. Luke discussed this with me and recommended a very easy hike instead. Thank God for Luke! The easy hike almost killed some of us out of shape folks 😂. Luke gave as many breaks as needed, and was so supportive and encouraging to all of us.He sang cowboy songs and told us about native plants and animals while pointing them out to us. Everybody had such a good time. I highly recommend. Jacob K2024-09-17Verified Amazing Alpine Packrafting Experience The views were amazing!! The hike itself was not too challenging. Our guide Luke was very knowledgeable, and all around just a great guy. Highly recommend this!!! Natalie S2024-09-09Verified Great Guide & Unique Experience Luke was a fantastic guide. Very knowledgeable and was able to teach a lot along the way. He did a great job adjusting to the various level of all hikers. The pack rafting was such a unique experience. I would do it again in a heartbeat! Ryan B2024-08-30Verified Awesome Packraft Day Trip Had a fantastic experience with tour guide Luke. Program was well communicated and well organized. Signed up for the packraft which is a unique element to get a chance to have a guided hike and float with all equipment provided. Luke was full of useful information and fun stories. His passion for tour guiding is evident in everything he did. Thanks! Greg W2024-08-27Verified Bitterroot Bliss: A Middle Finger to Mediocre Hikes If you think you've seen it all, think again. This hike in the Bitterroot Mountains isn't just another walk in the woods – it's a revelation.Your guide, Luke, isn't some cookie-cutter tour operator reciting facts from a laminated card. No, this guy knows his stuff. He'll school you on every plant, critter, and geological oddity you encounter, painting a picture of the Bitterroot's history that'll make you feel like you've time-traveled.The trail? It's a glacial masterpiece, carved by ice and time, leading you to a high-altitude lake that'll make you question why you ever thought city life was a good idea. And just when you think it can't get any better, out come the packrafts. You'll float on water so clear it's like someone spilled a piece of sky.But here's the kicker – Luke brews up some backcountry coffee or tea that'll put your fancy pour-over to shame. And he does it all without leaving so much as a fingerprint on this pristine wilderness. It's the kind of experience that reminds you why we bother to leave our comfort zones, why we seek out these pockets of untouched beauty. It's not easy, it's not luxurious, but damn if it isn't perfect. 2IATravelers2024-08-19Verified Family Hike and Alpine Float Our family of four thoroughly enjoyed our 6-mile roundtrip hike to Camas Lake and back. The hike was not an extremely difficult one, but enough of a challenge to make us enjoy the relaxing Pack Raft float on the lake … absolutely beautiful! We cannot say enough positive things about our guide Luke! Great communication prior to, during, and after the hike. Knowledgeable about the hiking, history, vegetation, and Bitterroot area. We really enjoyed the information Luke provided. He taught us about the edible berries along the way which was a special treat! On our way down we encountered a thunderstorm with rain and small hail. Luke navigated us perfectly and that will be one of our most fun memories. Mother Nature provided us with beauty and Luke’s way of responsibly and ethically showing us around the mountains was so appreciated! If you are thinking of a backing packing, hiking, floating, any type of an outdoor adventure in the Bitterroot area, we would highly recommend Luke and Bitterroot Backpacking! David L2024-08-19Verified Awesome Luke! Luke is a great young guide! He knows everything and is very responsible to his clients. We had a great hiking and peaceful lake float experience. It's good to take a nap on the boat or you can swim in the water too! Collins H2024-08-17Verified Solo hike to alpine lake Luke took me up on a guided hike to the Kidney lakes in the Bitterroot mountains. It was an incredible experience and Luke was an expert guide.
